The story is based on the short tale by Xin You (Xin You ) with the same name.

It tells the story of a family which has been making cakes for eight generations.

It is based on a hidden ingredient in the cake which the father isn’t willing to reveal to his son when he hands over the business on to his son upon his deathbed.
