The Movie Emperor Synopsis and Plot Summary

Lau Wai-Chi is an iconic Hong Kong movie star with millions of fans who are an eye that is always at his rivals.

The fame of his name has brought him into a tighter and tighter circle that all he is able to do is ensure his body flawless and wonder if another celebrity is winning an award or taking on a huge role that could be his. He is a bit vulnerable and recognizing the need for a fresh image.

Lau is convinced to take the lead role in an indie comedy that is humdrum and in which the main character is an artisanal pig farmer from the village.

Lau along with the film director are of one mind that this foray into merriabilist cinema will be exactly the thing foreign film festivals want.

As Lau starts the long and arduous process of figuring out how to perform the role convincingly, we watch a string of flawlessly executed knockdowns of the film industry’s pretense.
