Cao Bao Ping Intro

Cao Bao Ping graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1989 and spent the rest of the decade tutoring screenwriting classes at his old school.

Cao was to expand into the field of TV and television-related films and co-directing the TV film Absolute Emotion in 2001.

His first film as a director was in 2006’s Trouble Makers, a satirical black comedy about a small town taking revenge on a group of Hoodlums.

Because of its sloppy contents, Trouble Makers faced a host of issues from censors. It took six years to develop before it was finally released.

The film was screened in 2006 at the Shanghai International Film Festival where it was praised the Variety’s Derek Elley as a standout entry.

The year 2008 was the time Cao continued the story of Trouble Makers with The Equation of Love and Death featuring Zhou Xun.

The film received a great reception and Cao was awarded a top emerging director accolade during the San Sebastian International Film Festival for his work.
